GODSPEL NOT Gospel

"Gospel" literally means "good news" or "good message," derived from the Old English gōdspel (god = good, spel = story/message). It is the translation of the Greek word euangelion, which refers to the joyous announcement of a victory or the proclamation of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Key Aspects of Gospel:

The Christian Message: It signifies the good news of Jesus Christ's life, death, and resurrection, which brings salvation to humanity.

The Four Gospels: The term refers to the first four books of the New Testament—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—which document Jesus's life and ministry.

Proclamation: It refers to the act of spreading this message, also associated with euangelizomai ("to proclaim good news").

Thematic Meaning: It centers on the narrative that Jesus bore the penalty of sin, offering redemption and reconciliation with God.

Original Greek Word Euangelion:

Euangelion is a Greek term meaning "good news" or "good message," foundational to Christianity as the "gospel" of Jesus Christ's life, death, resurrection, and reign. Song of Solomon 5:2:
I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.
