I was thinking back on how the Lord saved me and all the things and people who crossed my path to get me to Jesus. I gotta say how strange and weird it was. If minister’s where to pick some of the folks who ministered to me they never would have picked some of the folks I have been ministered to by. I was thinking about Dr Gene Scott who was a strange cigar smoking preacher who I watched on TV while I was drinking mad dog 20/20. This guy brought out God and the Bible to me for the first time. He wasn’t a pompous religious man….LOL.
He was a real guy talking about God and before I knew it I was reading the Bible and searching out what it was he was talking about. I never really read the Bible before that much, but this guy opened stuff I never have seen before in dealing with God. I never heard anything like that before. I learned he died of a stroke on 21 February 2005 in Los Angeles. Since I wasn’t born again when I was watching I went and listened to some of his old clips on line. A radical thinker and a little too harsh some times, but he was sure Jesus loved him anyway. A little BIO on him:
William Eugene Scott or Dr. Gene Scott (August 14, 1929 – February 21, 2005) was a U.S.-based religious broadcaster and author of 20 pamphlets and brochures on his own spiritual views. Dr. Scott served as pastor of Faith Center and Wescott Christian Center and held weekly Sunday Services at the Los Angeles University Cathedral in Los Angeles, California. Ministry Outside Los Angeles, Dr. Scott’s ministry reached listeners in more than 180 countries and was the first Christian broadcaster to cover the globe through satellite, large dish, small dish, non network TV, shortwave radio and Internet media.
I remember the show called “ Festival of Faith“. It had some strange topics on it and I was drawn into what he was talking about. You couldn’t look away it was too weird you had to watch him, just out of sheer curiosity. Before you knew it the guy put the Bible into the topic and was showing you how UFOs were in the Bible. Some times you thought the guy was just nuts till you realized he was no fool…he would let you know just how smart he was too. The guy was radical in his thinking and was some times (well more than some times) rough around the edges but you listened to him when he talked. He wasn’t full of fluff… God used Gene Scott to help bring this old sinner into His kingdom…and for that I am for ever thankful. I never read the Bible till Gene Scott got me thinking. Gene would get you thinking too. It was a month or 2 of watching him I started to listen to radio ministers and I heard one talk about Jesus dying on a cross and what was really involved in the scourging and how he died a cruel death. I found God would reach down and talk to an old sinner even one full of Mad Dog 20/20 . If it wasn’t for this guy I would have never read my bible or listen to the radio station that got me saved. What a long strange trip it’s been…God is so right on to give ya what ya need when ya need it, even if it’s a strange cigar smoking evangelist, I gotta admit I am ready for another Eugene Scott to get the fluffy preachers we have to hear now days a ruffle in their feathers, maybe God will use me.
